Call for Applications — Immersive Perspectives: The Third Wing of Butterfly
Are you an emerging Asian artist curious to discover how collaborative and multidisciplinary art projects take shape?
Festival Accès Asie, in partnership with a collective of artists — painter Khosro Berahmandi, installation and video artist Hadi Jamali, musician Kimihiro Yasaka, guest composer Natsuki Niwa, and ceramic artist Reihan Ebrahimi — is launching a call for applications for its Immersive Perspectives Observation Program: a unique opportunity for learning and reflection designed for emerging Asian artists who wish to immerse themselves in Montreal’s artistic scene and its creative processes.
This program offers participants the chance to observe the creation process of The Third Wing of Butterfly, an evolving installation born from the meeting of diverse practices: video, sculpture, painting, ceramics, sound, and music.
About the Projet
The Third Wing of Butterfly is a multidisciplinary, process-based installation that explores transformation as both a personal and collective experience. Rooted in intercultural dialogue, the project examines the tensions between familiar structures — social norms, identities, and beliefs — and the forces of change that disrupt them.
By embracing ambiguity, it invites the audience into a meditative space where transformation unfolds as an uncertain, layered journey.
Painter Khosro Berahmandi will create nine large-scale canvases depicting metamorphosis through both figurative and abstract forms. Installation artist Hadi Jamali will digitize and animate these works, generating the video components and light-based interactions. Musician Kimihiro Yasaka (Montreal) and composer Natsuki Niwa (Tokyo) will collaborate on the creation of an evolving soundscape that accompanies the experience. Finally, ceramic artist Reihan Ebrahimi will craft cocoon-shaped sculptures, offering a tactile anchor within the installation.
The project will be presented at Le Gesù – Centre de créativité, in Montreal, from May to August 2026.
About the Observation Program
The program reflects the desire of first-generation immigrant artists to open their creative process to the community. It encourages curiosity, dialogue, and reflection on the many ways a multidisciplinary collaboration can be built and transformed.
Three emerging Asian artists will be selected to accompany the collective through different stages of creation—from the initial development to the final installation and exhibition. Participants will take part in ten work and discussion sessions between November 2025 and May 2026 with the collective’s artists, helping them deepen their understanding of the evolving dialogue behind a multidisciplinary artwork. They will therefore have the opportunity to benefit from a form of mentorship during discussions about the artwork, guided by the expertise of the collective’s artists.
No financial exchange will take place: the program is entirely volunteer-based, with no fees or remuneration for either party.
Exact dates will be determined once the selected artists are confirmed.
Eligibility Criteria
-To be an emerging Asian artist;
-From any discipline, but with an interest in visual and digital arts;
-To be available to participate in ten sessions between November 2025 and May 2026.
