A Transpacific Night in Town is an online East Asian pop themed evening. The Transpacific Express collective invites you into a retro Japanese and Korean hip-hop universe where beats will mingle with funk and disco sounds on the dance floor. A celebration that will transport you to a totally unique oriental time capsule. Don’t miss the next departure!
Description
The evening will begin with a short presentation on city pop and K hip-hop hosted by DJ NGL Flounce and DJ Frantz Lin, founding members of the collective and co-curators of the event. You will learn more about these new trends in East Asian pop culture on the Montreal scene.
You will be introduced to artists of these two musical trends with a selection of curated songs played on CDs and vinyls. Our DJs will take you on a listening session, all in the comfort of your home and weave you through the sound of Junko Ohashi, Bronze and other signature artists of the city pop era before closing with K hip-hop.
Last but not least, Festival collaborator, Sara Say, by her artist name of 4MtoMidnight, will join the team and feature stylistic visuals reminiscent of the ‘anime’ aesthetic of the 1980s.
A Transpacific Night in Town offers up a sonic journey aboard the Transpacific Express.

Transpacific Express
Transpacific Express is a collective founded in Montreal in 2019 by Frantz Lin and El Jousse. The concept is a dance party through a time capsule transporting us to the beaches of the Pacific with the sounds of East Asia soothing our mind and allowing us to dream of a different world.
El Jousse (DJ NGL Flounce)
EL Jousse is a multimedia artist from France and Madagascar based in Tiohtiá:ke (Montreal). Their main mediums are poetry, spoken word, music production, and DJing under the name NGL Flounce. Co-founder of Transpacific Express, they know where to find all the niche aggressive and sultry Korean hip-hop.
Frantz Lin
Frantz Lin is a Montreal DJ, musician, and co-founder of the Transpacific Express events collective. His upbringing on canto-pop and smooth jazz is reflected in his DJ sets that meld boogie, juke, and city pop. His mixes have made waves on radio stations and dance floors on both sides of the Pacific.
Sara Say (a.k.a 4MtoMidnight)
Festival collaborator for A Transpacific Night in Town and digital illustrator, Sara Say explores innovation and rarely discussed topics in her projects. She is also a young artistic director who made her debut with the group exhibition Korea: Through the Eyes of the Artist (2019). She continues to promote other young talent from Asia through projects she curates, bringing a refreshing change to the Montreal scene.
