Through the testimonials of three immigrant musicians, this workshop offers a space for sharing and learning about professional development in the music industry in Quebec.
In partnership with Musique Immigration.
During this workshop, musicians, Xuan Lucie Liu, Mahshad Nadalian, and Aditya Verma, will discuss their experiences, strategies, and challenges in terms of professional development in Quebec, and share their perspectives on Musique Immigration (a digital platform designed to equip immigrant artists in their professional careers in the province).
Also participating will be Ziya Tabassian, artistic director of Festival Accès Asie and musician, Caroline Marcoux-Gendron (UQAM/HEC Montréal), researcher who initiated the Musique Immigration project, and Hortense Dubus, doctoral student, member of the research team (Université de Montréal), and cultural worker.
A networking session will follow the workshop.
Aditya Verma is a Montreal-based sarod master and one of Canada’s leading voices in North Indian classical and world music. Trained under the legendary Ravi Shankar, and shaped by decades of immersive study, he brings the sarod’s 25-string, fretless sound to life with emotional depth, refined virtuosity, and a rare connection with audiences.
For over 35 years, Verma has toured across North America, Europe, and India, including a landmark performance with the Washington Symphony Orchestra on Capitol Hill before 500,000 listeners. A composer and recording artist, he has created multiple albums and film scores, and his work has been featured on CBC. On stage, his music is both timeless and immediate, where tradition meets fearless improvisation and a truly global spirit.
Mahshad Nadalian is a musician and cultural communications professional based in Montreal. With a master’s degree in music from McGill University, she divides her time between music performance, teaching, and arts management.
She collaborates with the Mont-Royal Youth Orchestra and La musique aux enfants, and is interested in projects that combine music creation and community engagement.
Xuan Liu, a yangqin performer based in Montreal, stands out for her virtuosity and her commitment to promoting Chinese music. Founder of the Hua Yin Chinese Ensemble, she combines sensitive performance with artistic direction to showcase this heritage across North America to audiences both local and international.
