Le Petit Outremont welcomes the warm and captivating sounds of Lady Sylva as she launches her new self‐titled album on May 15 and 16 at 8:00 pm.
Lady Sylva, known also as Sylva Balassanian, has been an indelible part of Montreal’s cultural scene for more than 20 years and has been composing her own music in recent years. Her last album, Souffles d’Orient, was nominated World Album of the Year at the ADISQ gala. “(It is a) sober and wonderful album, with no frontiers, which brings about the impossible balance between the rigorous classicism and the free vagrancy of tongues and world music.” (Ralph Boncy, Voir/Radio‐Canada).
Her new release, Lady Sylva, takes the listener on an intimate emotion and memory filled journey that weaves story and a soundscape resonant with influences from Lebanon, Armenia, the orient and the new world. Festival Accès Asie is pleased to invite the
public to this very special concert.
Armenian by descent, Lebanese by birth, Lady Sylva has studied in Paris and now makes Montreal her home. She has been performing since the age of 15 and has sung internationally with artists
such as Aznavour, Moustaki, Bécaud, Ferrat, and Claude Léveillé. She has
also performed in the Festival international de la chanson in Sopot, Poland. Sylva Balassanian, her real name, offers her listeners a sound rich in Eastern and Western influences.
