📅 CALL FOR ARTIST SUBMISSIONS : Interval

OBORO x Festival Accès Asie

Interval is a short-term production and presentation residency program in media arts, run jointly by Festival Accès Asie and OBORO, creative partners since 1999.  

The program aims to support an artist from the Asian diaspora (from anywhere in Asia) in developing and presenting a media-based project. The project can take the form of an installation, performance, or a one-time public presentation.  

The selected artist will receive an artist fee and production budget and will benefit from OBORO’s support, including:

-Up to 5 days of access to OBORO’s New Media Lab studios and equipment;  

-Technical assistance from OBORO’s New Media Lab team (upon availability). 

The completed project will be presented on May 2, 2026, at OBORO, as part of Festival Accès Asie.

About the Partners 

Since 1995, Festival Accès Asie has celebrated Asian Heritage Month in Montreal. It is interdisciplinary, inclusive, and intergenerational, showcasing the diversity of practices of artists from Asia and its diaspora in performing arts, visual and media arts, literature, interdisciplinary arts, and culinary arts.

Founded in 1982, OBORO is an artist-run center dedicated to the production and presentation of contemporary practices in visual, media, and digital arts. OBORO fosters transcultural artistic experiences as a way to contribute to collective well-being. The center offers residencies, exhibitions, educational activities, and access to studios and equipment via the New Media Lab, which also provides specialized workshops.

Eligibility Criteria

Elligible: 

-Projects in development requiring a short production period; 

-Projects in installation, performance, video, digital art, new artistic practices, music, sound art, or live art; 

-Projects already in progress but never publicly presented. 

Not Elligible: 

-Projects previously exhibited or performed in Quebec, or that are too similar to a previous presentation; 

-Projects requiring more than 5 days of production or more than one day of presentation.

How to Apply 

Submit your application by email only to [email protected] with the subject line: “Proposal for Interval 2026”. Large files may be sent via WeTransfer

Your submission should include: 

-Short biography (150 words); 

-Artist statement (max. 250 words) outlining your artistic approach and research focus; 

-CV highlighting your artistic career (max. 5 pages); 

-Project summary (max. 250 words); 

-Detailed project description (max. 400 words) including: connection to your artistic practice, planned stages of development, technical needs (studio, camera, lighting, support, etc.), up to 10 images and/or video sequences. See OBORO’s equipment list here.

Please note: due to the number of applications, individual feedback will not be provided for submissions that are not selected.

Conditions Offered  

-Production and presentation fee: $1,100 (same amount for a duo or collective); 

-Up to $500 to cover costs of materials, equipment rental, or external human resources necessary for production and presentation (upon presentation of receipts); 

-Up to 5 consecutive days of access to OBORO’s studios; 

-Access to equipment for project presentation; 

-Assistance from OBORO’s New Media Lab team (upon availability); 

-Promotion and documentation of the event. 

* IMPORTANT: fees for collaborators are the responsibility of the artist. Other costs (travel, accommodation, production or presentation expenses exceeding $500 or incurred outside the program period) are the responsibility of the artist.

📢  CALL FOR APPLICATIONS – VISUAL ARTIST 📢

As part of the démART–Mtl (Artistic stream) program of the Conseil des arts de Montréal, Festival Accès Asie is launching a call for applications to host a visual artist in a six-month immersion residency (January to June 2026).

Project Objective

The project aims to provide the selected artist with a concrete learning experience within the festival team in order to:

・Discover and understand Montreal’s cultural ecosystem;
・Participate in the production and organization of a festival;
・Develop their artistic practice in parallel with the immersion;
・Present a work in a professional and recognized setting.

Eligibility

This call is open to artists who meet the following criteria:
・Newcomer to Quebec or first-generation artist;
・Person of Asian origin;
・Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
・Residing on the Island of Montreal;
・Practice in the visual arts (installation, exhibition, digital arts, photography, media arts, performance, etc.).

What We Offer
・A six-month immersion (January to June 2026) within the Festival Accès Asie team;
・Professional support and deeper insight into the Montreal cultural scene;
・The presentation of a visual work (exhibition or installation) as part of Festival Accès Asie in May 2026;
・Compensation funded by the démART–Mtl program: $12,000 for 600 hours of work (hourly rate of $20).

・A cover letter outlining their background, eligibility for the démART–Mtl program, and interest in the project.

Please note: Festival Accès Asie selects the artist and submits the application to the Conseil des arts de Montréal. If the application is not approved, the residency and support will not take place.
